QLM AUTHORITY
Quantitative Language Models
A Quantitative Language Model is a governed language-to-quantitative composition system that interprets financial intent, retrieves evidence, decomposes quantitative tasks, selects or invokes appropriate quantitative methods and explains the resulting evidence-backed outputs.
Language interprets the question. Quantitative systems own the numbers.
Interpret
Understand intent, entities, constraints, financial context and the evidence required to answer a question.
Compose
Route the task to deterministic models, statistical methods, LQMs, data and governed tools appropriate to the problem.
Explain
Return grounded language with citations, assumptions, model identity and the boundary between observed, calculated and generated information.
WHAT MAKES THE CATEGORY PRECISE
Definitions need boundaries, not just names.
- A QLM is not simply a finance-tuned chatbot.
- Natural language access does not bypass model, evidence or approval controls.
- API, SDK, MCP, model or agent access does not imply Financial Actions authority.
